Good Ideas I've Had

Sometimes I think I've had some good ideas. I hope people can benefit from them.

  • Using old-fashioned shower curtain holders in place of s-hooks for racks.  S-hooks are expensive and I was trying to economize. One day I had to put the spare key for my car on something and the only thing I had was a shower curtain holder. I tried them on my baker's rack. They work great!  The size lets me hang larger and more oddly shaped utensils.  They also hold utensils more securely.  I remembered that s-hooks jumped off easily.  The shower curtain holders don't.

  • Reseeding the grass already growing in cat-it grass planter.  I bought the planter because Molly used to pull the cat grass out of its small pot all the time.  The new planter works very well.  The cat grass has a short life and I started to ponder what to do since I couldn't afford to buy another right now.  I also didn't want the cat pouting at me all week. As the grass aged I decided to reseed it as is like people do lawns.  It worked great!

  • Reusing a nice little stand: When I was taking recycling to the landfill I found a little stand painted white set out in case someone wanted it. It was very sturdy and looked like it could be original Mission.  It has an important place in the living room. It was just the right size to hold the cat grass on the top and it's next to the cat tree.
  • Reusing a grated cheese container to hold baking soda: I use baking soda to scrub out tough stains on my dishes.  I gave up pre-soaped steel pads when I realized I was allergic to the soap and I had a steel sliver lodged under my thumbnail.  With a scrub pad baking soda works great.  What wasn't so great was shaking it out of the little paper box. It would always get soggy.  After pondering on it it occurred to me what would work is a cheese shaker like I used to see in diners.  I couldn't find one to but then I thought I could buy a container of grated cheese shaker in its own shaker at the store and empty it. It would have the extra advantage that I could close the top to keep moisture. This is definitely one of my better ideas.
